Advanced Mini Piling Systems Ltd. is the result of a collaboration between two like-minded friends. Malcolm Noakes and Philip Weaving worked together for a large UK piling company – one of the early pioneers of ground engineering – in the early 1980s.
After working closely together for many years, sharing a high regard for quality and a committed work ethic, the two friends decided to go it alone, setting up their own company to provide piling and groundworks solutions throughout England and the Channel Islands.
Since being founded in 2005 Advanced Mini Piling Systems has established professional relationships with many building companies and subsidence specialists – we are even the piling contractor of choice for a number of the larger piling companies.
In 2019, with Malcolm’s son, Oliver on board, we decided to diversify and include a manufacturing facility to rebuild old piling machinery, testing new designs and technology we have developed ourselves. So successful was this venture that we now supply brand new piling machines, designed and built from scratch by ourselves, to other piling companies.
Our office and manufacturing facility is in the Somerset countryside near the popular town of Frome. Basing ourselves in North Somerset makes us well placed to service Frome, Bath, Exeter and London while keeping our commuting distance short and carbon footprint low. We’re also able to enjoy the lovely local food, artisan produce and dog walks!
Working at a piling company is not the most glamorous of jobs. It is physically demanding, dirty and requires long hours of labour, so we greatly appreciate our employees who have made our company successful.
Our team of operatives is small, but specialist, all qualified and up to date with the latest safety and working qualifications. Safety is paramount on site. We constantly monitor and improve our safety standards with training and preventive measures.
Our team members tend to stick around – one has been with us for more than 30 years and one of our foremen has held his position with us for more than a decade.
In 2022 we started fabricating our own open-site self-propelled driven piling/drop hammer rig – the RPR DH10.3 – designed and manufactured from scratch on our site. We’re continuing to develop the technology we used in this machine, and working on more environmentally friendly products, including electric-powered piling machines.
Our company executives are father and son, Malcolm and Oliver Noakes – ably assisted by canine companion, Otto the Daschund (whom they declare is the real boss!):
Company director and founder of Advanced Mini Piling Systems Ltd. Malcolm is a qualified carpenter – a true wizard with wood. He has such an excellent eye for detail that he’s earned the nickname “laser eye”. A perfectionist, he has more than 40 years’ experience in the foundation and piling industry, gaining a multitude of skills and master of many techniques, from steel fixing and R/C works to drilling and piling. He’s helped with the evolution of new piling machinery, most notably the early development of driven and rotary bored piling rigs.
Off-duty, Malcolm enjoys entertaining his many grandchildren, digging in his thriving vegetable garden, or walking his beloved Dachshund, Otto.
Design, Fabrication, Machinist, CAD, CAM, Website Manager, Accountant, HR, Social Media…. You name it, he does it!
Oliver worked with his father wherever and whenever possible during his school days, and took on a full-time role at Advanced Mini Piling Systems as a piling operative in 2006. He’s worked on numerous projects, from huge supermarket basements to small domestic extensions. His great love of technology, engineering, and electronics means he’s soaked up knowledge in the fields of automation, robotics, electronic design, programming and engineering. Which has helped send him in the direction of developing and inventing new piling rigs, custom tools and attachments. He’s also a whizz in the workshop when it comes to repairs and refurbishments. Oliver works closely with his Dad, on site, on the factory floor and in the office. He hopes the family business will continue to grow – “all of my children love engineering and tools, with a trip to Dad’s workshop being the highlight of any weekend,” he says.
